Abstract

Sounding D is a sound-art project, which was carried out in the year 2010 by the Netzwerk Neue Musik. The work is characterized by its special quality of site determination. The sounding D train, inspired by John Cage’s Il treno (1978), travelled for two weeks throughout Germany and set up at 15 stations along the way. In each place, in which an individual sonority per se adheres, numerous sound-art works or musical performances were organized. The sound installation located inside the train, Outside In (Blue) by Robin Minard, evoked exciting correlations vis-à-vis Germany’s topographically open spaces during the journey. The result is a map of the contemporary music scene in Germany.
